Release of Australia’s first Open Government National Action Plan

The Australian Government recently submitted its first Open Government National Action Plan to the Open Government Partnership.

The Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon Mathias Cormann, announced the release of the National Action Plan on the eve of the fourth Open Government Partnership Global Summit in Paris, France. Minister Cormann has responsibility for co-ordinating Australia’s involvement in the OGP on behalf of the Prime Minister. He will continue to be supported by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Agencies have already commenced work on implementation of commitments in the National Action Plan. The Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, today released the ‘Review of tax and corporate whistleblower protections in Australia’ paper for consultation, as part of commitment 1.1 to improve whistleblower protections in the tax and corporate sectors. The consultation paper is available at the Treasury website, and stakeholders are invited to comment on the consultation paper online until 10 February 2017.

Many of the other commitments in the National Action Plan similarly involve additional public consultation on implementation.
