Reflecting on a Remarkable Symposium: Insights, Inclusion, and Innovation
What an amazing and inspiring two days at the New Zealand Symposium.

The 2024 Symposium left us all buzzing with energy, new ideas, and a sense of community that only such gatherings can foster. With the event now behind us, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the highlights and the invaluable insights shared by our speakers and participants.
The symposium kicked off with an opening by Ngai Tuahuriri, setting a tone of respect and mindfulness that carried through the event. This was followed by an impactful speech by IAP2 Australasia Chair, Tony Clark, which laid the groundwork for the discussions that followed.
Inspirational Keynotes
Dave Wild’s keynote, ‘Engage in the Future’, propelled us into the day with an energetic and visionary start. Dave’s discussion on amplifying hidden voices and evolving beyond best practices wasn’t just thought-provoking; it was a call to action for all of us, encouraging a shift in perspective and approach to the challenges we face.
Anjum Rahman’s session on ‘Building Belonging and Inclusion’, was another highlight, deeply resonating with attendees. Engaging Sessions and Tours
The breakout sessions were a testament to the diversity and relevance of topics we’re passionate about. From democratic lotteries to community engagement methods, environmentalism, and data-driven insights, the discussions were both engaging and grounding, offering practical insights into real-world challenges.
The Site Tours in Ōtautahi showcased the city’s resilience and recovery, providing a unique narrative on engagement in challenging circumstances. The sunny backdrop added to the experience, making it both enjoyable and enlightening.

The welcome reception was a fantastic opportunity for networking, allowing attendees to connect with like-minded individuals. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm with which everyone engaged, sharing experiences and insights.
