Nivek Thompson is the founder of Deliberately Engaging, a small consultancy that specialises in the recruitment of mini-publics for deliberative and other processes. She has recruited over sixty deliberative mini-publics across Australia. Deliberately Engaging also supports online engagement through the Synthetron platform.

Nivek has worked in community and stakeholder engagement within government and non-government organisations for most of her career. She has recently completed a PhD on the impact of democratic innovations on the quality of democracy. Through this research, she has identified a number of design improvements to enhance the contribution of deliberative mini-publics to democracy.

Nivek has recently developed and moderated two online courses around deliberative democracy for UTS – one for leaders and another for operational staff and facilitators. Nivek is also the host and producer of Real Democracy Now! a podcast and the creator and producer of the Facilitating Public Deliberations podcast.
