Pitch For The Practice winners announced!

IAP2 Australasia recently invited members on a participatory budgeting journey. This initiative gave members the opportunity to decide on what ideas they wanted to see implemented over the next 12 months.

This has been an exciting experience for IAP2A as this was the first time we have run a participatory budgeting process.

We will be sharing progress updates with you on the projects over the coming 12 months. In the meantime, head over to https://pitch.iap2.org.au/ to learn more about the process and the projects.

PS – Here is a message from Arnetech who has requested our members’ feedback to shape their project:

Thanks for making our project a reality.

Over the next few months we’ll be seeking your input to help shape this research into something really useful to your practice. We’ll also be asking to hear about your experiences of using digital community engagement: the good, the bad and the ugly!

We’d like your help to finalise the scope of this study by telling us what would make this research valuable to you. Visit the Phase One Survey page on the website and give us your feedback by answering two quick questions.

Your comments will help to inform the phase two survey that will take a deeper look into your experiences of digital community engagement. The second phase will begin in late September.

And here is a message from Mendleson Engagement and Communication:

Would you like a support group of fellow engagement practitioners?

We are pleased to bring you one of the Pitch for the Practice projects that was voted for by members. IAP2A is funding the establishment of three ‘community of practice’ groups for engagement practitioners. These groups will meet monthly to share issues, learn from each other and create a supportive space to help each other grow professionally. This project is being delivered by Mendleson Engagement and Communication.

If belonging to a community of practice group sounds good to you, tell us why we should set up your group by September 7. Your group could be for practitioners in a particular geographic regions (e.g. Sydney CBD), or a specific area of engagement, e.g. infrastructure, deliberative or local government. You could meet face to face or online.

The funding will include setting up the group (calling for members, screening, etc) and a paid facilitator for the first 7 sessions. After that, it is expected that groups will have the skills, structure and resources to be self-running.

To submit an EOI

Please email the following to info@IAP2.com.au by Friday, September 7:

  • Your name and contact details
  • How establishing your group aligns with the IAP2A strategic plan?
  • Why a group is needed in your area (area could be geographic or a specific area of engagement)
  • What your group can contribute back to IAP2, e.g. developing a case study
  • How you will run the group independently once the paid facilitator finishes after the first 7 sessions.

Make sure that the subject line of the your email says: EOI for a IAP2 Community of Practice.

Please note that IAP2A is also developing a set of resources for those who wish to set up and run their own groups. Please email us if you would like to receive these.
