Flourishing peak body needs a bright spark to lead the implementation of strategic, value-adding initiatives that keep members coming back year after year.

  • Well respected organisation growing through the pandemic
  • Vital, can-do CEO + supportive Board
  • Significant experience with proven success in a member-based organisation

With almost 10,000 members in Australia and New Zealand, IAP2A is the peak body for community and stakeholder engagement and supports the Australasian sector with training and educational resources; and tools and standards on best practice public participation and engagement.

Our mission is to advance the practice of community and stakeholder engagement through education, advocacy and building partnerships. We believe that engagement, when done well, improves social, environmental and economic outcomes and increase trust in the democratic process.

Responding to change with freedom, flexibility & progressive thinking, we have moved our most popular programs on-line, developed new ones and made welcome structural and operational changes – even while continuing to grow apace throughout the weirdness of the pandemic.

One of the developments this rapid growth has prompted is a step-by-step review of all leadership and pivotal positions. This role is one that has been re-shaped and re-built to meet the strategic opportunities of a growing sector.

Obviously, it demands all of the skills, knowledge and abilities that any professional who has been in a comparable role in a membership organisation will bring to the table. And that of course is making sure that members get what they want and are given full value for their participation.

But over and above that, the opportunity here is for a bright spark – an energetic, strategic thinker who is always looking for opportunities to make a good thing even better. Someone who is able to get out, strike a ready rapport with members, wrinkle out what it is they really want (even if they’re not absolutely sure themselves), and do what it takes to see they get it.

In the end, it’s all about retention and the lifelong loyalty that comes through building membership value – i.e. ensuring that people who initially come for the training genuinely want to stay on for the eventual destination.

To have a chance at this exciting job, you’ll need to show a great track-record at other membership organisations, where your leadership and ability to coach and mentor others was tested and found terrific. You also need to be as modern as tomorrow, a persuasive and likeable conversationalist and negotiator with the proven flair to influence and bring others along “for the ride.”

Able to travel around Australia and New Zealand, you are a flexible can-do individual with high ethics and a great team spirit. Additionally, you are comfortable working in a distributed team and matrix environment.
